Hi one and all. I want to create an POS Application in Retail and restaurant management in C#.Net/VB.net. So anyone can post me links regarding POS learning guide (either in pdf/doc document) using C#.net/Vb.net which should be very easy to learn step-by-step. If u found any application regarding POS learning guide document please attatch the link for download. I admire you ambitious, however writing retail or restaurant POS requires you not only to have solid understanding of.NET languages(or others) but also experiences in the fields, using the actual POS.

A POS can be written in any language, I praise Microsoft technologies for making this so easy. The hardest part is making the design and how can't be easily learned.

Company usually hires professionals from the fields when designing such software. A customer driven POS implementation can be easier because software requirements are all there. I assume you want to commercialize your products, in this case, the POS should have most of the features that businesses desire. Gathering the requirements is difficult.

I am not trying to discourage you, it's just some opinions from my experiences. I agree with azaho. It's unfortunate that it's not much help as an answer, but you really need to ask a more specific question. For a start, 'retail' (being non-food specific, generic retail POS systems) and restaurant POS systems are often quite different. Also, 'restaurant' systems can also vary greatly depending on the type of establishment running the system.

Asking, 'How do I build a POS?' Even if you state you want to use C# and Pos.Net, and handle retail and restaurant enviornments is kind of like saying 'I want to build a four door saloon car with a petrol engine, how?' It's too broad a question to give any meaningful answer too.

You need to consider what you want the system to do and the environments it will run it. Single branch, independent branches, multi-branch, franhise or enterprise environments? How will you handle banking and end of day? Will you accept foreign payments? What type of payments. Cash, cheque, eftpos, integrated eftpos, gift card, gift voucher etc.

Does the UI need to be multi-language, and if so, what about receipts, customer facing screens and so on. Will you handle charge accounts, tabs, layby's repairs, appro's, hire, hire purchase, received on account, order, quote, rain checks etc. What about trade pricing, bulk/quantity break pricing, and what sort of promotion/special offer pricing will you support? How configurable should the ui be? Will it be WinForms, WPF or ASP.NET?

Will it have it's own back office, inventory, ordering, reporting etc. Or will it link to an existing ERP/Accounting/Stock/CRM solution for these functions? If the former, how will you export data to other systems when required? Should you store the data in the ART's format for integration with other systems, or in your own format and do a conversion? Will you support touch screens, or keyboard and mouse or all three?

For restaurants will you support take out, split tender per table/order, assigned seating, reservations, calculated wait times etc? How will you handle returns? Will you have CRM integration, loyalty programs, customer specific promotions etc.? Will the data be sent to and from the store in real-time, or batches.

Do you want or need to support rules around change and payouts, based on original payment types and values, sale value, customer type/loyalty status etc.?What about staff permissions and security? Will you capture reasons for discounts and returns to provide extra value in your reports? Commission tracking/calculation? Park and recover sales? Across terminals?

Kitchen printers? I'm not trying to scare you off, just trying to point out that you need to have a big think about what you want to do (and possibly some research on your own), and then come back when you have more specific questions and problems.

Hi, The Pos.Net SDK is at the links provided, and this SDK lets developers integrate POS applications to devices.

If you are looking for an SDK to do something else (such as add customer functionality) then either; 1. You're out of luck.

Every POS application is different, some are extensible, some are not. They are written in different languages and in different ways. I do not belive there is a single SDK that would work with any given POS. There.may. however be an SDK that has this functionality for the Microsoft POS system (I think the product is called MS Retail Management System, or RMS?).

If that's what you're looking for, then you are in the wrong forum. Also, it would not be suprising if such an SDK required you to either be a partner, or at least register on-line before obtaining it. Hi Everyone I am making a POS application. I am stuck at the sales form. Here is the snapshot of the form: I load the sales form with an empty datagridview. Then keep on adding records based on the Bar codes of products. I want that when I press 'confirm', the information from datagridview can be inserted in the 'inventory' table and 'sales' table after some validations.

Can anyone help me with that? Would be great. I suggest you search for more information on the DataGrid.DataSource property and look for a few tutorials on DataGrids.

A few sources to get you started: Hope it helps. Don't waste you time for a POS restaurat program. I have written VB program for school reporting in Melbourne, but can not sell it and end up 'stolen' by others. I have also written an excellent VB POS restaurant program and again cannot sell it, despite my program has many print options by ESC/POS commands, including printing Chinese, order with/without waiter, multi-station. The program is done by one person and one person alone. So it can be done. However, the conclusion is do not try unless you have a plan to sell it.
